DISCOVER the trend on Interior Design

Do you want to know the next trends in interior design?

This is one of the most acclaimed topics and this post will be dedicated to it.

We will tell you about the colours, materials and designs that will flood our homes  based on the predictions of agencies, paint companies and interior design fairs around the world. Also, we are going to analyse innovative materials and elements by large suppliers; they are in some cases those who know the trends best and in other cases, those who impose them.

The range of trends is not limited to a single public and is so broad that depending on the taste or function of the space, the best solution has always been found, do you want to find yours?

COLOURS

The most powerful trend is the colour due to the effects and sensations that it produces. It is for all that the choice as a trend of a particular colour is associated with many external factors of an economic or social nature.

We are going to study agencies and paint companies and their predictions about colour for 2018.

The first agency is Pantone and Ultra Violet has been the colour chosen for this year 2018, based on the universe and hope. It is related to originality, ingenuity and visionary mentality that lead us to the future.

The WGSN agency supports this choice and recalls the return of this popular color in 1980 and highlights its ability to combine with yellows and bronzes.

We have come to the conclusion that another reason for the choice of this color is its identification as the color of the woman, underlining the fight against equality. And Mashable, one of the most important news blogs, confirms our theory.

If you want to know how to combine and include it in your decoration, here we leave you some inspirational photos:

The color chosen by Pantone each year is different and within a great variety. This is the range of colors chosen by Pantone in the last 16 years. Since each year this color is different, it would be advisable to apply this trend in small doses, such as fabrics or accessories, on this way it is possible to use it only temporarily and change it every year.

Dulux chooses the Heart Wood, a warm pink color that creates an enriching sensation to find a welcoming home after the stress of our current lives.

You can value some examples of the use of this colour in the same space, combining it with different color ranges:

Both the violet chosen by Pantone and the Heart Wood by Dulux, are in the same range of colors and can be combined together perfectly:

White Putty, one of the color chosen by Trendstop for this year is very similar to the color chosen by Dulux, of soft and warm aesthetics with calm sensation for our agitated lives. White base of purity with a pink touch towards new beginnings.

Humans behave differently in different colors, and if you want to know how and where to apply each color, these are the sensations related to each of them:

DESIGN AND MATERIALS

GEOMETRIC PATTERNS

Within the novelties in the rugs of The Rug Company, there is a common factor, and it is the pattern with geometric patterns, both in neutral tones, as in more daring tones.

We also find geometric patterns in the Tiles of Johnson Tiles, characterized by textures and shapes that give them movement.

ORIGINALITY

Do not you like the ordinary and boring? You are in luck since originality and creativity invades us. Moooi has created this lamp in white and gold colours; inspired by the Japanese art of origami.

With any authentic design, your home will be unique.

LARGE FORMAT TILE

Are you thinking about remodeling your bathroom? Do not hesitate and choose the Large format.

Using large format for interior claddings, joints are minimized, the sense of continuity is greater and the installation and cleaning are easier. In the XXV International Exhibition of Global Architecture and Interior Design, Porcelanosa will present the XLIGHT, porcelain stoneware with an XL format, minimum thickness and excellent physical and mechanical characteristics, being able to project fully integrated spaces thanks to its versatility.

IMITATION OF MATERIALS

Natural materials are used increasingly on interiors; although, for price or convenience, we can opt for coating that mimic them and duplicates are becoming more perfect thanks to the advancement of technologies.

We can see on the Select collection of Johnson Tiles, imitation of natural elements such as stone or wood. The finishing of the tiles is excellent compared with the original natural stone (Marble Travertine & Carrara white marble):

Porcelanosa presents this Perfect simulation of the grain, drawing and texture of natural wood with the resistance and durability of the ceramic.

GOLD

Swoonworthy confirms that gold, classic and beautiful, remains to cover our interiors.

MAXIMALISM

According to the magazine Interior Design and the agency WGSN, maximalism begins to reappear  and the great advantage is that it allows us to express ourselves better than the current minimalism of Scandinavian inspiration and the Marie Kondo method.

VELVET

Surely you have already discovered that velvet returns to our catwalks and homes. Its softness and warmth make it an excellent and luxurious material once reserved for royalty.

Do you want to know how to integrate it in the best way? The Design Book shows it in different environments:

Blue velvet that turn this sofa into the protagonist of a minimalist room:

Golden velvet contrasting with dark tones:

Armchairs in green velvet and gold metal give the touch of comfort in this mixture of materials such as this rustic table, the classic lamp and a minimalist architecture:

NATURAL AND ECOLOGICAL MATERIALS

The repercussions of climate change may be those that give us a sense of guilt for our planet and raise awareness to think about the environment and how to care for it.

VERTICAL GARDENS

It is increasingly growing, the incorporation of plants and vertical gardens inside the spaces. Indoor plants have numerous benefits: they oxygenate the environment by cleaning the atmosphere, reduce noise and help to relax.
Patrick Blanc, patented the vertical garden in 1988.

ECOLOGICAL MATERIALS

There is a growing on the research around ecological materials that are manufactured by naturals materials with high durability and do not generating toxic waste, do not harm the environment while preserving aesthetics. In 2017 there was an increase in design of ecological materials such as tiles made from corn leaves, leather made from pineapple waste or furniture made with recycled plastic.

INCORPORATION OF NATURAL MATERIALS

The incorporation of natural materials and trends like rattan reappear bringing lightness, comfort and elegance to our spaces.

It is difficult to find another material that can be equal to wood in comfort, quality and beauty. On some occasions, the original structural elements of wood are left visible.

Due to the warmth that wood offers, it is an incomparable material to cover the floors, like these flooring of Porcelanosa.

Stone is the oldest material of construction known due to its hardness and resistance: Original stone walls or the use of marble, slate or granite in cladding of bathrooms or kitchens will be one of the preferred options. Once again, marble for countertop in kitchens is used.

The use of leather is increasingly because of its comfort and elegant. Its use is done in an ecological way, guaranteeing the conditions of living and slaughter of the animals. We see this process in an ecological way in brands like Burberry with their 2020 Projet.

ORGANIC DESIGN

Numerous current designs have nature as inspiration. The organic design is inspired by organic  and It is based on curves and dynamic and round shapes achieving a pleasant and natural impression. Here we also see the great inspiration of nature integrated in the design.

Den Herder Production House presented this mural inspired by colonies of crustaceans adhered to the rocks.

In the Ikabana Restaurant, in Barcelona (Spain), El Equipo Creativo has chosen a design where walls and ceilings are covered with interlaced wooden sheets that simulate tree branches adding originality to the space.

TECHNOLOGY

The Spruce reminds us that smart technology is increasingly present in our homes and for that reason it is necessary to take them into account at the time of thinking about a design. We have traveled to Technology For the Kitchen at the Salone del Mobile (Milano) to see the advances in technology and its aesthetic integration in our interior designs.

It is specialized in built-in appliances and their evolution. Kitchens are not only functional, now they are destined to coexist and socialize. Kitchen with contemporary designs, technological innovation, efficiency and ease of use.

In the IMM Cologne 2018 we can find some projects like these two lightings (GRADIENT and 60º) that are designed to adapt to the circumstances.

DO IT YOURSELF (DIY)

We are becoming more original and creative, also in the search to create something unique and economic. Do It Yourself (DIY), making modifications to existing elements, from the change of colour to a complete modification.

You can find inspiration on some website like Homemade-ModernIn this Ikea hack, a plastic chair is used as a mold, which after pouring the concrete, this amazing result is got.

And millions of inspirations are found on Instagram or PinterestLet's give wings to our creativity and use the old legs of a sewing machine as a support for the sink.

Some designers, like Michael Marriot, use peculiar elements for their projects, why not use them in our homes? It is the easiest way to reuse what no longer serves you and to follow the most original designs and adapted to our needs.

HANDMADE

Brands like The rug company, are committed to hand-made carpets and to the permanence of ancient Production techniques using natural materials to protect the environment, such as wool, bamboo, banana leaf or alpaca, depending on the resistance, softness or brightness that is wanted.

The company Ikea, and its PEOPLE + PLANET wager, increases the incorporation of hand-made products with natural elements for a more sustainable future.

Handmade work is more elaborate and sophisticated giving personality to each element.

SIMILARITIES WITH TRENDS FROM OTHER TIMES

THE 20S

The evolution of fashions is cyclical and we are currently facing a great inspiration in the 20s. To see these similarities, we are going to analyse various scenes from the movie The Great Gatsby, (recreated in this epoch) with a picture of an current design. Although floors and walls are clear and bright, gold, velvet and chandelier are common points in both environments.

THE 50S

We have also found similarities with the 50s in some current furniture but inspired by them, like this inspired on the McIntosh Dunvegan Sideboard from 1959, and icon of Danish fashion design at the time in England.

There are trends that are modifying scanty and within the same line, as is the process of changing bronzes to gold in decorative elements. It exist other trends that are introduced gradually but the change is radical, the minimalism will be moving out until reach the maximalism, but the process of change will be slow and gradual. And there are punctual trends, such as color. For all this, taking into account the type of trend that we have before us, it is important to know how to use it.

We hope you liked it and above all that it will be useful for your next changes at home or in your office and you have found great inspiration here.
